“We feel abandoned”: Gironde residents bitter after wildfires destroy Le Porge village

In the aftermath of devastating wildfires that ravaged Le Porge, France, residents express a profound sense of abandonment and injustice. Over 200 homes were reduced to ashes, leaving a landscape of destruction and deep emotional scars.

A collective, initially formed through a WhatsApp group, now unites nearly 700 victims from Le Porge and surrounding areas. They are organizing to file a collective lawsuit, seeking answers and accountability for what they perceive as a mishandled crisis.

"We have four walls left. Our neighbors' house is in ashes. We have lost everything," said Ludivine Daurignac, the collective's president. "The emotional and psychological shock is immense, and we feel abandoned because the crisis was poorly managed."

The evacuation process itself added to the distress, with residents being allowed to return to their devastated village only gradually. The scale of the loss and the perceived lack of adequate response have fueled a growing demand for justice among the survivors.
