“We Love You Infinitely”: Messi’s Wife Pays Tribute After His International Retirement

Antonela Roccuzzo framed Lionel Messi’s retirement from international football as the closing of a chapter watched closely by his family. In an emotional Instagram message, Messi’s wife said she felt proud of the way he had completed his career and of everything he had overcome.

She recalled seeing him suffer, fall and rise again through years of joy and disappointment. Roccuzzo said she felt especially moved that their children had witnessed those moments directly, including their father’s determination to keep pursuing his goals and lift the World Cup.

The message followed Messi’s decision to leave Argentina’s national team after a 0-1 defeat by Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final. The decision came more than a month after the match.

Messi said his statement had been written two days after the final and completed after his father’s death. He described the decision as painful but said he had reached peace with it and believed the time had come to make way for the next generation.
