“We were not ready”: Football referee Maciej Sieciński dies after crash

Maciej Sieciński, a young football referee, has died after a serious traffic accident. In recent days, he had been fighting for his life, but efforts to save him ultimately failed.

The Warmia-Masuria Football Association announced his death on social media and remembered Sieciński as a smiling and helpful person who could always be relied upon. The association sent its condolences to his family and loved ones.

The association's refereeing committee also paid tribute to him. "We were not ready for this... because probably no one is ever ready for something like this," it wrote. The committee called him a friend, colleague and referee, but above all, a wonderful person.

Officials highlighted Sieciński's love of cycling. He covered long distances by bicycle and even rode to his first match as a referee. After the accident, a fight for his life continued, despite great hope, but he could not be saved.

"Maciek, we will miss you very much. Your smile, your presence and the person you were," the committee wrote, adding that his death had brought home how fragile life is and how much people should value every moment spent together.
