Weapons and Vehicle Seized in Command-Style Robbery of Hohenau Cattle Rancher

Police searching two properties in Capitán Miranda seized the pickup truck allegedly used by a criminal group to flee after robbing a cattle rancher near Hohenau. The searches formed part of an investigation into the Aug. 5 aggravated robbery of Federico Galeano Ledezma, 67.

Investigators from the National Police’s investigations department carried out the operation with prosecutor Rodrigo Lepreti of Colonias Unidas. The searches took place at 6 a.m. under a warrant signed by Judge Melisa Carlson. Both properties belonged to Yolanda Bernarda Ramos, according to the police report.

Among the seized items was a 2012 Nissan Frontier with license plate BTG 546. Police said the vehicle had been used by the group after abandoning the victim’s pickup. Officers also found a 20-gauge F.I.E. CORP. shotgun, a German-made .22-caliber revolver, a Samsung Galaxy A16 phone, two black holsters, seven unfired .22-caliber cartridges, 14 unfired 20-gauge cartridges, and assorted clothing and shoes.

The robbery involved at least six armed people who stopped Ledezma on a rural road in Hohenau as he headed to take his pickup to a car wash. A worker accompanying another of his vehicles was also intercepted. The group took a Land Cruiser, a red Isuzu D-Max and cash estimated at between 16 million and 20 million guaraníes.

The attackers arrived in a dark Hyundai Tucson that had reportedly been stolen in Paraguay’s Central department. They abandoned it at the scene after taking the red Isuzu and escaping at high speed. The seized evidence remains with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
