Weather alert warns of strong storms in eight Paraguayan departments

Paraguay's Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology has issued an alert for the possibility of moderate to strong rain and storms in parts of the country's Eastern Region.

The bulletin, released shortly after 8 a.m. on Friday, said storm cells were developing across the warning area and could produce isolated severe weather in the coming hours.

The alert covers eight departments: Cordillera, Guairá, Caaguazú, Caazapá, Itapúa, Paraguarí, Alto Paraná and Amambay. Scattered rain is also possible across much of the rest of Paraguay, including Asunción.

Meteorologists expect unstable conditions to persist across much of the country through the weekend, with more rainfall possible at least until Sunday.
