Weather forecast: Up to 36 degrees Celsius, with thunderstorms and squalls possible in the mountains

Germany's southwestern states of Rheinland-Pfalz and Saarland are bracing for a sweltering weekend as temperatures are forecast to climb significantly. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts sunny conditions for Saturday, with thermometers reaching between 28 and 33 degrees Celsius.

Overnight into Sunday, temperatures will dip to a range of 14 to 19 degrees, potentially as low as 11 degrees in the Eifel region. Sunday is expected to be even hotter, with highs forecast between 32 and 36 degrees Celsius. In elevated areas, temperatures might reach up to 28 degrees.

While the day will remain mostly clear and partly sunny, residents in the higher elevations should prepare for potential weather shifts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible from the afternoon onwards, bringing with them the risk of heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind. These severe weather conditions are expected to diminish overnight into Monday, with only isolated and less probable occurrences anticipated.
