Weather service: Hot start to the week in NRW

Residents of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) are bracing for a scorching start to the week, as temperatures are forecast to soar to 36 degrees Celsius on Monday. The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued warnings for severe weather expected to hit later in the day.

The new week begins very hot in NRW. On Monday, temperatures are expected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius widely.

As the afternoon progresses, a shift in weather patterns is anticipated. Clouds are expected to move in, bringing with them the potential for localized heavy rainfall, with accumulations of up to 25 liters per square meter. Hail and strong wind gusts reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour are also predicted. In some isolated instances, the DWD warned of extreme weather events with up to 30 liters of rain per square meter.

The turbulent weather is not expected to subside quickly. Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast to persist through the night into Tuesday. Temperatures will drop slightly, ranging between 24 and 17 degrees Celsius. This unsettled weather is projected to continue until Wednesday, after which the DWD expects the situation to calm down, with mostly dry conditions and peak temperatures around 32 degrees Celsius.
