Wembanyama stars as France crushes Slovenia in World Cup qualifiers

Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance, guiding France to a commanding 92-67 victory over Slovenia in the second stage of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifiers.

Playing on home soil, the French team asserted dominance from the outset, establishing a 31-17 lead in the first quarter. By halftime, their advantage had extended to 19 points, 54-35, and at one point, Slovenia trailed by as many as 29 points. Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs star, showcased his talent by scoring 22 points, grabbing 9 rebounds, and blocking a shot in just over 21 minutes of play.

Maxime Raynaud and Matthew Strazel also contributed 13 points each for the winning side. Strazel added 6 assists. Rudy Gobert and Sylvain Francisco, a former player for Kauno Žalgiris, each scored 9 points. For Slovenia, Martin Krampelj and Gregor Glas led the scoring with 10 points apiece, but they were unable to mount a serious challenge against the energized French team.

With this victory, France solidifies its position at the top of Group L, boasting a 6-1 record after seven games. Slovenia, conversely, remains at the bottom of the group standings with a 3-4 record.
