Conflicting reports emerged regarding the specifics of the confrontation. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reported at least five Palestinians killed and three seriously injured, stating that armed Israeli settlers attacked the village of Tel near Nablus. They claimed residents defended themselves, and soldiers then opened fire, killing several Palestinians. The report also suggested some settlers were injured by soldiers' fire.

The violence occurs amidst Israel's election campaign, where security is a central theme. Since the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent Gaza war, the West Bank has seen a significant increase in Palestinian deaths, with around 1,100 killed according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The ministry attributes this to Israeli military operations, armed clashes, and Palestinian attacks.
