West Bank nationalist crime jumps 63% amid rising violence, security data shows

Nationalist crime in the West Bank has seen a dramatic 63% increase in the first half of 2026, according to data from the Israeli security establishment. This surge brings the total number of recorded incidents to 660, a significant rise from previous periods. The data, reported by KAN News, also highlights a 50% increase in deliberate attacks against security forces, with 45 incidents reported in the first six months of the year.

The escalating violence has had a direct impact on Palestinian casualties. In the first half of 2026, 140 Palestinians were wounded and six were killed, a stark contrast to the previous six months which saw 82 wounded and no fatalities. These figures do not include incidents from July, which reportedly added around 100 more cases of nationalist crime, indicating the upward trend continues.

In response to the growing unrest and attacks from both Palestinian militants and settlers, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have bolstered their presence. Last month, the IDF increased its deployment across the West Bank to 26 battalions, adding two additional battalions. This reinforcement followed an order from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to enhance troop numbers, establish more checkpoints, and expand counterterrorism operations.

Amidst the rising violence, Rabbi Dr. Kenneth Brander of Ohr Torah Stone issued a strong condemnation of the actions. "This violence committed by Jewish extremists is deeply disturbing and demands a clear moral response from Jewish and Israeli leadership," he stated. "There is no justification, religious or otherwise, for attacking innocent people because of their identity."
