West Edmonton Home Fire, Explosion Under Investigation

An explosion and fire erupted at a house in west Edmonton's Canora neighbourhood on Thursday afternoon, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

Residents reported hearing a significant bang around noon, followed by the sight of smoke and flames rapidly consuming a house located on 102 Avenue near 155 Street. One neighbor noted that the property had appeared boarded up and unoccupied for about a year.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services responded to the call shortly after 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found the house fully engulfed in flames and heavy black smoke. Seven fire units were deployed to combat the blaze, which was contained to the single house on the property.

The Edmonton Police Service also attended the scene due to reports of an explosion. Both agencies are now collaborating to determine the cause of the fire and the preceding explosion. As of the time of reporting, no injuries have been confirmed.
