West Fleming Karel Sabbe wants to break record on French HexaTrek: 3,034 kilometers and 140,000 meters of elevation in 33 days

Belgian ultrarunner Karel Sabbe is embarking on a monumental challenge to break the unofficial record for the HexaTrek, a demanding trail spanning 3,034 kilometers across various mountain regions, primarily in France. Sabbe, 36, from Anzegem, began his attempt on Monday with an ambitious target.

His goal is to complete the arduous trek in an astonishing 33 days. This would shatter the current unofficial record, which stands at 42 days, 4 hours, and 23 minutes. The HexaTrek is known for its extreme difficulty, featuring a staggering 140,000 meters of cumulative elevation gain, equivalent to ascending Mount Everest more than 15 times.

Sabbe, who has a history of impressive endurance feats, is pushing his physical and mental limits in this pursuit. The ultrarunning community will be closely watching his progress as he navigates the challenging terrain and attempts to etch his name into the record books for this formidable trail.
