West Java council stresses regulatory compliance in forest management

West Java's Regional People's Representative Council Commission II is stressing the importance of adhering to regulations to address issues in forest management. During a hearing with Koperasi Binamitra, Perum Perhutani, and PT Palawi, the commission highlighted that problems arising in forest areas, including potential community conflicts, should be resolved through dialogue and consensus.

RK Dadan Suryanegara, a member of Commission II, stated that all parties need to collaborate to find solutions while respecting existing regulations. He believes this approach will accommodate community interests without disregarding the rules governing forest management. Suryanegara noted that mediation efforts so far indicate a possibility for constructive resolution among the involved parties.

The hearing also revealed that Koperasi Binamitra's legality does not comply with current regulations, necessitating corrective actions to ensure all field activities align with legal requirements. Despite this, Suryanegara remains optimistic that the issues can be resolved through dialogue, aiming for a win-win solution for all stakeholders. He also commended Perum Perhutani and PT Palawi for their responsible forest management practices, which he found to be in accordance with regulations.

Suryanegara concluded by emphasizing the need to strengthen outreach to the public regarding forest management rules. He believes clear and open communication will foster better understanding among communities, preventing misunderstandings. The commission hopes the hearing's outcomes will serve as a foundation for peaceful and proportional conflict resolution.
