West Java DPRD Member Urges Public Criticality in Post-Truth Era

West Java DPRD member Sidkon Djampi is urging the public to sharpen their critical thinking skills as they navigate the flood of information in the "post-truth" era. He notes that the ease of digital technology allows information to spread rapidly, but not all of it is factually sound.

Now people must be smarter in receiving information. Don't let something that is constantly repeated on social media be considered a truth, even though it is not necessarily based on facts.

Djampi explained that the post-truth era is characterized by opinions, emotions, and personal beliefs often holding more sway over public perception than objective facts. This presents a serious challenge, especially with the widespread use of social media. "People must be smarter in receiving information now," he stated. "Don't let something repeated on social media be accepted as truth without factual basis."

While acknowledging the benefits of digital technology for quick information access and expression, Djampi highlighted the increased potential for hoaxes, disinformation, and narratives deliberately crafted to manipulate public opinion. He stressed the importance of verifying information, considering the source, context, and credibility before believing or sharing it. "Don't just believe something because it aligns with your beliefs. You must check the source, the facts, and the context," he advised.
