West Java Police arrest suspect in Bandung woman's kidnapping and assault

West Java Police have apprehended Taufik Hidayat, a suspect accused of kidnapping and brutally assaulting a 29-year-old woman in Bandung. The arrest occurred Tuesday night in the Griya Pesona housing complex in Ciparay, Bandung Regency.

According to West Java Police Chief Irjen Pol. Rudi Setiawan, the suspect's digital footprint, specifically online transaction activities on Tuesday morning, proved instrumental in locating him. "This morning, the person concerned made several transactions. This became a clue for us. The team on duty in Majalaya remained there, searching the residential area, and finally, from afternoon to night, they succeeded in finding and arresting him," Setiawan stated.

Following his arrest, Hidayat was taken to the Majalaya Police Station before further examination at the West Java Regional Police headquarters. Health checks and drug tests were conducted, with both yielding negative results. Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect has confessed to his actions, expressing regret and attributing the violence to alcohol consumption. However, investigators are still working to fully understand the motive and the complete sequence of events.

The case came to light after the victim's family received an anonymous WhatsApp message informing them that YTR was at Hasan Sadikin General Hospital in Bandung. The assault left YTR with severe injuries, including blindness in both eyes, a torn lip, speech difficulties, and impaired mobility. She also lost valuable personal belongings.
