West Lombok Regent Detained by KPK After Sting Operation

The Regent of West Lombok, Lalu Ahmad Zaini, has been detained by Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) following a sting operation. The operation, conducted on Monday, July 20, 2026, also led to the arrest of Alvonsus Gani, CEO of PT Moconel Sistim Instrument, and Sudirman, CEO of PT Air Minum Giri Menang Lombok Barat.

These detentions stem from allegations of bribery, gratification, and conflicts of interest in procurement projects within the West Lombok Regency government. The KPK has named Zaini and the two directors as suspects in these corruption cases. They were seen being escorted into a KPK detention vehicle on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, without speaking to the media, wearing orange detainee vests and handcuffs.

Acting Director of Investigation at KPK, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that the three individuals would be held for the first 20 days of detention, from July 21 to August 9, 2026, at the KPK's Red and White Building detention center. Initially, 19 people were apprehended in the sting operation in West Lombok. Following initial examinations, six individuals, including Regent Zaini, were brought to Jakarta, along with one private sector individual arrested in Jakarta. A total of eight individuals are currently undergoing examination by investigators.
