What recognition for Sergej Jakirović: Hull coach shortlisted for major award

Sergej Jakirović has earned a place among the leading candidates for the Barclays Manager of the Month award after an exceptional start to his first Premier League season.

The Hull City coach guided the newly promoted club to two victories without conceding a goal. Hull began with a 2-0 home win over Manchester United, its first victory over United in the top flight of English football. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored in the first half.

A week later, Hull won 1-0 away at Coventry City. The hosts created chances, but Jakirović’s team held its defensive shape and Liam Millar scored late after a counterattack. After two rounds, Hull had six points, a 3-0 goal difference and a place near the top of the table.
