WhatsApp Web to enable calls and video calls from the browser

WhatsApp Web is set to introduce a highly anticipated feature allowing users to make and receive voice and video calls directly from their web browser, eliminating the need to download separate applications. This new functionality, which is rolling out globally in the coming days, promises the same private, end-to-end encrypted experience that users expect from WhatsApp.

The update brings features previously exclusive to mobile devices to the web platform. Users will be able to engage in individual or group calls, share their screens, use reactions, and access a complete call history directly within their browser. WhatsApp emphasizes that this move is part of its ongoing effort to enhance communication accessibility, regardless of the user's location or device.

Currently, we are incorporating new functions to facilitate communication, no matter where you are or what device you use.

Beyond basic calling, the web version will also incorporate call transfer capabilities, enabling users to move ongoing group calls between devices without interruption. Additionally, a "waiting room" feature will give call organizers more control over participant entry, while "QuickHD" aims to improve video quality from the start of calls. Noise cancellation is also included to ensure clear audio even in noisy environments, with options to manage this setting during calls.
