When million-view TikTokers 'team up' for drugs

Two well-known Vietnamese TikTokers, Nguyen Nhat Duy and Nguyen Van Hoang, are facing serious legal consequences after the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy completed its indictment and transferred the case to the City People's Court. They are accused of "organizing illegal drug use" and "illegal drug trafficking."

Duy, 28, and Hoang, 25, gained popularity among young audiences on TikTok for their seemingly glamorous lifestyles. However, behind their viral videos, a darker reality of drug abuse has emerged. The case file reveals that Duy and Hoang, along with a group of friends, began using drugs in 2024. Instead of promoting positive values, they allegedly leveraged their influence to draw friends into drug use, forming a group for "party" sessions.

Nguyen Nhat Duy is described as playing a "leader" role, responsible for purchasing drugs and collecting money from the group for these illicit substances. The group reportedly used a bedroom in a house on Nguyen Thi Dinh Street in Thu Duc City as their drug den. This location was outfitted with high-power speakers, stage lights, and a setup resembling a small nightclub.

Investigations indicate that Duy, Hoang, and two other individuals, Nguyen Hoang Huu Luan and Nguyen Tan Duc, organized drug use sessions four times using a "contribute money to buy" method. The indictment details multiple instances of purchasing ecstasy and ketamine, with Duy often fronting the costs and later being reimbursed by the group. The most recent incident involved purchasing drugs on February 13, 2025, leading to their arrest the following day. The source of the drugs was traced to an individual named Trang, who profited from the sales. Duy and Hoang, with nearly 100,000 followers on their joint TikTok channel and Hoang having an additional 600,000 followers on his personal channel, now face severe penalties ranging from 7 to 15 years in prison.
