For Zaki Yamani, looking neat is not just a stage requirement. Even a quick trip to 7-Eleven usually means putting on shoes rather than slippers.

The singer says he makes a point of staying clean, fragrant and presentable every day. He believes that this can build confidence and may also create opportunities in the entertainment industry, including unexpected conversations about performances and possible public-relations connections.

When we take care of ourselves by staying neat, fragrant and so on, opportunities will come.

“Alhamdulillah, I am fortunate because my mother used to take care of my father. She passed those values on to me little by little,” Yamani said at the launch of his single Akur in Kuala Lumpur. He said his mother’s influence shaped the way he approaches appearance and daily life.

Yamani’s preparation also extends beyond clothing and grooming. He frequently goes to the gym and does cardio to keep his stamina high, especially for performances involving five, six or even 10 songs with demanding vocals and energy levels.

He said the importance of an artist’s image depends on each person’s vision and way of carrying themselves in the entertainment industry. His own preference, he said, is clear: he wants to look neat, even at home.
