When will universities open? 2026-2027 start dates and academic calendars for public and private universities

Students who completed university enrollment after the 2026 YKS results are now focused on a practical question: when will classes begin?

The first classes of the 2026-2027 academic year are expected to start from mid-September. However, there is no single opening date for all institutions. Public and foundation universities prepare their academic calendars according to decisions made by their own senates, meaning dates can differ from one university to another.

Many universities have already published their 2026-2027 academic calendars. Students are therefore being advised to check the Student Affairs or academic calendar section of their own university’s official website for the exact start date.

The fall semester’s end date will also vary. Once classes finish, universities will hold midterm and final examinations, followed by the semester break. Spring-semester classes are expected to begin during the first months of 2027. Students will need to track more than the first day of classes, including course registration, the add-drop period, midterms, finals and resit examinations.
