Where Is the Dream? Goes Straight to the Top

Where Is the Dream? went straight to the top of Iceland’s cinema attendance chart during its opening weekend, drawing 3,069 viewers nationwide. Sambíóin said that makes it the biggest opening for an Icelandic film so far this year.

The film is showing in cinemas across Iceland. Its title refers to a well-known song by Sálina hans Jóns míns, whose music provides the foundation for the musical.

Director Höskuldur Þór Jónsson described the project as a passion-driven effort built by a close group of collaborators. “With determination and passion as our weapons, I brought very good people on board who were hungry and ready to put their heart and soul into the project,” he told Morgunblaðið’s Sunday supplement. He said the group treated the production as a major gathering of friends and that nobody joined for the money.

Filming took 25 days, followed by about a year of post-production. Sambíóin describes the result as a music-driven story of love, friendship, joy and sorrow, with the band’s beloved songs woven into a story that takes viewers into 1990s Reykjavík, an era of big dreams, romance and unforgettable music.
