White House UFC Fight Costing Millions, Faces Legal Challenge

A monumental effort involving more than seven federal agencies and hundreds of staff has gone into preparing for President Donald Trump's planned UFC fight on the White House's South Lawn. Legal filings reveal the event has cost at least $60 million, with funds provided by the UFC and affiliated groups.

The event is slated to be part of America's 250th anniversary celebration, featuring seven mixed martial arts matches on Sunday. However, a lawsuit filed by two Virginia residents seeks to halt the proceedings, challenging the National Park Service's oversight of the South Lawn.

Well over $60 million and tens of thousands of hours of labor have been expended.

The National Park Service has pushed back against the lawsuit, detailing the extensive operations. The installation of the Octagon and arena, which will accommodate 4,000 spectators, began on May 20. An additional 120,000 visitors are expected to watch from the nearby Ellipse. The Secret Service has worked closely with the UFC to manage the influx of equipment and between 700 and 900 staff members daily.

Beyond the main fights, the weekend will include a ceremonial weigh-in, a concert by The Zac Brown Band, and a UFC Freedom 250 Fan Fest with various interactive experiences and celebrity appearances. The athletes themselves are undergoing rigorous training, including intense weight cutting and diet alterations in the final week. Following the event, Trump is scheduled to depart for the G7 summit in France, with disassembly of the installations set to begin the following day.
