WHO Warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, Destroyed in Attack

A World Health Organization (WHO) humanitarian aid warehouse in Dnipro, Ukraine, was attacked and destroyed on Friday, August 8, 2026, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. No casualties have been reported so far.

Ghebreyesus stated on the platform X that a WHO staff member and drivers had visited the warehouse earlier that day. The team managed to evacuate 130 of approximately 300 pallets and leave the premises just before the attack. The warehouse held humanitarian medical supplies destined for frontline healthcare institutions, primarily WHO emergency medical kits.

The WHO systematically registers attacks on healthcare facilities globally but does not identify responsible parties according to its protocols. Since Russia's full-scale invasion began on February 24, 2022, the WHO has recorded 3,148 attacks on healthcare facilities in Ukraine. The majority of these involved heavy weaponry shelling, with 2,567 attacks impacting treatment facilities, 71 targeting warehouses, and 645 affecting medical supplies. These attacks have resulted in 240 deaths and 1,055 injuries.

"Attacks against health care MUST STOP. Otherwise, people will not be able to access life-saving health care," Ghebreyesus urged, adding, "There are rules in war. One of them is to protect people's health!" The organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) previously condemned what it described as Russia's "deliberate strategy to destroy the healthcare system" in Ukraine, citing a consistent pattern of attacks throughout the war. MSF asserts that these are not accidental consequences of the invasion but a conscious effort to dismantle healthcare and collectively punish the population.
