Whooping Cough Cases Reach 33 in Auckland and Northland, With More Expected in Schools

Health officials have confirmed 33 cases of whooping cough in Auckland and Northland over the past four weeks, with more cases expected.

Dr Michael Hale, medical officer of health for the National Public Health Service Northern Region, said cases had recently declined, but officials still expected further infections linked to schools and early childhood education centres. Whooping cough can be deadly for babies who contract it before they turn 12 months old.
