Why Experts Recommend Pouring Vinegar in the Toilet Weekly and Its Benefits

Many homeowners opt for natural cleaning solutions, and white vinegar has emerged as a popular choice for tackling stubborn limescale and stains in toilets. The effectiveness of vinegar lies in its acetic acid content, typically ranging from 4% to 8%. This acid helps dissolve calcium carbonate, the primary component of limescale that accumulates on toilet surfaces and in water channels.

Beyond its descaling properties, research suggests acetic acid possesses antimicrobial activity. Studies, including one indexed by the National Library of Medicine, indicate that acetic acid can combat various bacteria in laboratory settings. While bleach primarily disinfects and whitens, vinegar's strength lies in its ability to break down mineral deposits and reduce unpleasant odors.

However, using vinegar requires certain precautions. It should never be mixed with bleach, as this combination releases toxic chlorine gas, which can irritate the eyes and respiratory system.
