Wi Seong-gon confirmed as Democratic Party's Jeju governor candidate

The Democratic Party has officially confirmed Wi Seong-gon as its candidate for the Jeju gubernatorial race, marking the conclusion of the party's nominations for all metropolitan and provincial leadership positions. The announcement came after a three-day runoff vote, with Wi Seong-gon emerging as the final choice for the Jeju governorship.

This runoff followed the elimination of incumbent Governor Oh Young-hoon in the initial primary. The final decision was based on a combined score from party member votes and a survey of eligible voters using anonymized phone numbers, though individual vote percentages were not disclosed. Wi Seong-gon, a three-term representative for the Seogwipo constituency, brings a wealth of experience, having previously served in various party and parliamentary roles, including as chair of the Special Committee on Climate Crisis in the 22nd National Assembly.

Wi Seong-gon will now face off against Moon Seong-hyo of the People Power Party, Kim Myeong-ho of the Progressive Party, and independent Yang Yun-nyeong in the upcoming elections.
