Wife Accuses Husband of Years of Domestic Violence, Infidelity in Explosive Divorce Battle

A Nigerian lawyer based in the United States has asked the High Court of Lagos State to dissolve her marriage of several decades, citing persistent domestic violence, emotional abuse, infidelity, and financial manipulation by her husband, Sonny Onyegbula.

The core of the legal battle lies in Mrs. Onyegbula's petition, which details alleged repeated physical assaults. She claims her husband choked her and lifted her off the ground on multiple occasions, despite knowing about her chronic fatigue conditions.

One particularly serious allegation involves an incident in October 2012, after a visit to her husband's mother. Mrs. Onyegbula claims he assaulted her in front of their children, causing her to lose consciousness. She states he later took her to a medical center but abandoned her before she received adequate treatment, leading to further care at another hospital for her injuries.
