Wife of officer crushed by police convoy in Enugu recounts husband's last words

The tragic death of Inspector Obodo, 45, who was crushed by a police convoy in Enugu, has left his wife, Mrs. Ngozi Isiwu-Obodo, devastated. Inspector Obodo, a doctorate degree holder, served in the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Command until his untimely demise in a harrowing incident involving his colleagues.

Mrs. Obodo tearfully recalled her husband's last moments. He had waved goodbye to their three nursery-school-aged children and asked her to see him off to the bus stop. Before boarding a bus to his workplace at a hotel in Independence Layout, Enugu, he insisted on buying snacks for the children. His parting words to his wife were, "Take very good care of yourself and our children," a message that now carries immense sorrow.

The couple has two sons and a daughter, all very young. The family had spent a normal Sunday together, with Inspector Obodo even cutting his children's hair and ironing their school uniforms for the upcoming week. He left for work shortly after 7 a.m. on Sunday evening.

Later that night, around 9 p.m., Mrs. Obodo received a call from a person using her husband's phone. The caller informed her that the owner of the phone had been involved in an accident on Bisala Road. Distraught, she pleaded for him to be taken to a hospital and asked for help to get there quickly. She contacted her brother for assistance, and together they rushed to the scene, their neighbor also joining them.
