Wife of Taiwan politician travels to China, sparks outrage with 'prostitution' remark

Chen Pei-chi, wife of former Taiwan People's Party chairman Ko Wen-je, took a trip to China for a week amid her husband's legal battles concerning the Jinghua City project and alleged embezzlement of political donations. During her trip, she posted photos and defiantly asked, "Do you want me to go into prostitution?" Her remarks have since caused a stir among netizens.

Chen revealed on Facebook that the Control Yuan had fined Ko Wen-je NT$55.79 million for violating the Political Donations Act. A high court administrative hearing was held last week, which Ko did not attend, sending three lawyers instead. Chen explained that Ko himself wouldn't know what to say in court, as these matters were beyond his knowledge or direct involvement.

Responding to online criticism about the NT$55.79 million fine, Chen stated she didn't understand the Control Yuan's reasoning. She asserted that even high court judges found the justification for the fine unclear, let alone herself. When a Control Yuan representative, identified as "Luo XX," accused her family of asset stripping, Chen expressed her dismay. She pointed out that Ko's declared assets as mayor ranged between NT$20 million and NT$24 million over eight years. To cover the bail and subsequent legal fees, her family had to borrow tens of millions and eventually sell property.

Angrily, Chen directed her frustration at the Control Yuan representative: "This paparazzi Luo, our family was ordered to pay NT$70 million in bail and still has to fight a lawsuit requiring lawyers. If it were you, what would you sell if not real estate? Do you want me to go into prostitution?" Chen's provocative question left many netizens stunned. Some commented on the irony of a woman with a medical background making such a statement, while others questioned her choice of words and suggested legal means for fundraising.
