Wife wanted in Worcester officer's death found dead; police call it murder-suicide

A multi-day search for Karen Solomon, who was sought for questioning in the death of her husband, Worcester police officer Kurt Solomon, concluded Monday with the discovery of her body. Police announced the finding during a news conference, stating they believe the case to be a tragic murder-suicide.

At no time did the Solomons have any history of domestic abuse. I want to make myself absolutely clear, at this point that has nothing to do with this case. We believe this case is a tragic murder-suicide that occurred and we still have plenty of work to do as far as wrapping up all the pieces to this.

Kurt Solomon, a 31-year veteran of the force, was found dead in their Wildwood Avenue home early Tuesday morning. Karen Solomon was last seen walking in the area and was considered armed and dangerous. Her body was found by two employees of Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in the woods on May Street.

The nightmare of the past week has left our family heartbroken and rudderless. The compassion, dedication and empathy of all agencies involved have given us light in face of darkness. The selflessness of those who have helped us weather the storm cannot be expressed in simple words.

Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier emphasized that the couple had no history of domestic abuse, stating it was not a factor in this case. A gun was recovered near Karen Solomon's body. The extensive search effort focused on the area around Mill Street and Coes Pond, involving a U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter and personnel from Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service.

The Solomon family released a statement expressing their heartbreak and gratitude for the compassion and dedication shown by all agencies involved in the search.
