Wike: Tinubu's Leadership, Vision Transforming Nigeria Through Infrastructure

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has lauded President Bola Tinubu's administration, asserting that the president's leadership, vision, and political will are actively transforming Nigeria. Wike presented the nation's ongoing infrastructure projects as concrete proof of this purposeful governance during a lecture at the University of Port Harcourt's 36th Convocation Ceremony.

Speaking on 'Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for Future Leaders,' Wike described the scale and momentum of infrastructure initiatives under Tinubu as a reflection of a leadership committed to national change. He noted the president's uncommon willingness to make difficult decisions and mobilize resources to address Nigeria's significant infrastructure deficit. Wike stated that the current moment offers a rare opportunity for purposeful leadership to bridge the gap between Nigeria's potential and its historical performance.

What the present moment offers is a rare and defining possibility, a window in which purposeful leadership can begin, in earnest, to narrow the enduring gap between Nigeria’s vast potential and its historically uneven performance.

The FCT minister stressed that infrastructure serves as the clearest measure of leadership effectiveness. He pointed to roads, railways, power projects, housing schemes, and digital infrastructure as critical foundations for economic growth and social development. While acknowledging that some projects were inherited, Wike emphasized that the Tinubu government has injected renewed urgency and strategic direction into their execution, integrating them into a broader national development framework.

Wike cited several major projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, and the East-West Road, as examples of the administration's commitment. Investments in rail transportation, such as the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri corridor, and power sector initiatives like the Presidential Power Initiative with Siemens, were also highlighted. The minister also commended the administration's energy transition agenda, particularly the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative.
