Wike warns Abuja car racers to vacate residential areas, prioritizing safety

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has issued a stern warning against car racing in Abuja's residential neighborhoods, declaring that public safety is paramount. Wike stressed that individuals interested in such activities must confine them to approved venues, not areas where people reside.

Responding to concerns about the risks posed by car racing, Wike acknowledged that no formal complaint had been filed but assured that relevant authorities would investigate and take necessary action. He appealed to enthusiasts to understand that their recreational pursuits have limitations and that protecting lives takes precedence. "Life is more important," he stated, vowing to prevent racing in residential zones while expressing doubt about stopping it on highways.

If they want to carry out their car racing, they should know that there are designated areas for it, not where we have people’s residences.

During his inspection of ongoing projects, Wike assessed the progress of the Apo-Karshi and Bwari-Kubwa road projects. He reaffirmed the December 2026 completion target for the Apo-Karshi road, assuring residents that the projects would be finished on schedule. His administration remains committed to executing initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the capital's residents.
