Wildfire forces mandatory evacuation of Lynn Lake

Residents of Lynn Lake, Manitoba, faced mandatory evacuation orders on Saturday as a wildfire rapidly advanced, posing an imminent threat to the community. Manitoba Wildfire Services directed the town to issue the evacuation, prompting swift action from local authorities.

Evacuation flights were organized from the Lynn Lake Airport for those requiring assistance, with bus services available from the Town Office to transport people to the airport. Officials requested that residents pre-register to facilitate the coordination of accommodations and support services.

A reception center was established at the Victoria Inn in Brandon. Residents were encouraged to first seek accommodation with family or friends, with hotel rooms arranged for those who needed them. Evacuees were reminded to bring government-issued identification, prescription medications, medical supplies, essential personal belongings, and necessary supplies for themselves, their families, and pets.
