Wildfire in Andong Mountain Area Quickly Contained

A swift response by emergency services contained a wildfire that erupted in a mountainous region of Andong, Gyeongju Province, on the afternoon of April 18th. The blaze, which ignited around 12:05 PM in Yean-myeon, threatened nearby residential areas, prompting temporary evacuations.

Firefighting operations were immediately mobilized, with a significant deployment of resources including nine helicopters, 31 units of equipment, and a ground crew of 89 personnel. This coordinated effort proved effective, bringing the fire under control and extinguishing it by approximately 1:22 PM, just over an hour after it began.

While the fire consumed an estimated 600 square meters of forest land, the swift containment prevented further spread and, crucially, resulted in no human injuries. The focus now shifts to the investigation into the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage. Authorities are working to determine the origin of the blaze to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of the surrounding natural environment.
