In France, President Emmanuel Macron has called for the military to be mobilized to help control the "worst wildfires in the country's history." The fires have particularly impacted the Cap Ferret peninsula, south of Bordeaux, threatening the sole exit route. Hundreds were evacuated by boat, while others fled by car. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez described the scale of the fires as unprecedented and pledged efforts to protect Bordeaux.
