Wildfires in Friuli escalate, impacting roads and triggering alerts

Several wildfires have intensified in Italy's northeastern Friuli region, posing significant challenges for firefighters and emergency responders. The escalating blazes have led to the closure of roads and affected highway traffic, causing considerable disruption to travel in the area.

Firefighting helicopters and crews from Venice and Trieste are actively engaged in combating the flames. Initially, three new fire outbreaks were reported in the mountainous areas, but additional fires emerged throughout Saturday. The situation is particularly critical in the Karst region, situated between Monfalcone and Duino.

In response to the growing danger, Italy has activated its IT-alert cell broadcast system to warn tourists and residents about the unfolding crisis. The system aims to provide timely information and safety instructions to those in affected areas, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the potential risks to travel and tourism.
