Authorities reported that the fires spread rapidly, necessitating further evacuations of residents. In southwestern France, approximately 220,000 people have been evacuated since the fires began earlier in the week. The popular tourist destination Cap Ferret in the Aquitaine region has also been affected by the blazes. Meanwhile, a new fire has ignited near Valencia, Spain, impacting around 15,000 people who were subject to evacuation orders.

Spain declared a national state of emergency on Saturday due to wildfires near Madrid, which forced the evacuation of over 70,000 people. Tragically, one man died in the Valencia region due to the fires, according to the Spanish Interior Ministry. While firefighters have brought some fires under control, the new blaze near Valencia is proving challenging, with regional president Juanfran Pérez Llorca describing it as exceeding their extinguishing capacity and spanning about 21 kilometers.

More frequent and intense heatwaves are creating drier conditions, making vegetation highly susceptible to ignition across Southern Europe.
