Wildfires currently raging across the UK and Europe are a "stark reminder of the challenges posed by an increasingly extreme climate," stated the Prince of Wales. His comments come as over 300,000 people have been evacuated from parts of France and Spain, with another intense heatwave forecast for the continent.

In Scotland, a major incident was declared due to a significant wildfire in the Cairngorms, while numerous smaller fires have occurred elsewhere in the UK. Prince William shared a message on X, expressing solidarity with those affected: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the devastating wildfires across France, Spain and the UK. We are deeply grateful to the firefighters, emergency services and volunteers working tirelessly in extraordinarily difficult conditions."

Climate change is disproportionately affecting Europe, which is warming twice as fast as the global average, according to the Copernicus climate service. This rapid warming contributes to more frequent and intense summer heatwaves, strains water supplies, and fuels more severe wildfires.

Temperatures are expected to rise again later this week, with a fourth heatwave anticipated for some areas, prompting amber heat health alerts across eastern England.
