Will Smith sought in lawsuit against Jada Pinkett Smith

Bilaal Salaam, a former friend of actor Will Smith, is seeking to have Smith testify in a lawsuit he has filed against Jada Pinkett Smith. Salaam is suing Pinkett Smith for $3 million, alleging she threatened him during a meeting at a California hotel in 2021.

Pinkett Smith has denied the accusations and requested that parts of the lawsuit be dismissed. New court documents reveal Salaam, who is representing himself in the case, has requested Will Smith's deposition. However, Pinkett Smith's legal team contends that Smith is neither a party to the lawsuit nor has he been formally subpoenaed to testify.

Pinkett Smith's lawyers are also accusing Salaam of failing to provide requested documents, including recordings of phone calls central to his accusations and medical records related to the alleged emotional distress he suffered. In May, Salaam was ordered to pay Pinkett Smith nearly $33,000 in legal costs. Separately, Will Smith's ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, filed a $1 million lawsuit against him in the same month over alleged defamatory remarks.

The next hearing in the case between Pinkett Smith and Salaam is scheduled for August 19. A judge has already rejected Salaam's request for the case to be heard by a jury.
