Winter Olympics 2030: Ice events village to be in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite near Lyon

The Olympic village for the ice events of the 2030 Winter Games will be established in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite, a suburb of Lyon. The announcement was made jointly by the organizing committee, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and the Lyon Metropolitan Area.

Officials stated that the Oullins-Pierre-Bénite proposal was chosen as the best offer based on criteria including calendar security, urban and landscape quality, and environmental ambitions. "The 2030 Alps Olympic and Paralympic Games will leave a lasting mark on our territory. They will leave concrete heritage for the benefit of the inhabitants, which we will pay particular attention to," commented Véronique Sarselli, president of the Lyon Metropolitan Area.

While Lyon was initially considered for hosting the ice events, the organizing committee finalized the site map in late June, grouping these events in the Lyon area. The specific location for the athletes' village and event infrastructure remained to be determined. Ice events will take place at the Décines-Charpieu Arena, the Chassieu Exhibition Center, and the Halle Tony Garnier in Lyon, supplemented by two training sites. The mayor of Lyon had advocated for hosting athletes in the Confluence district within the city center, but this plan was not adopted by the organizing committee.
