With a Heat Pump, You Can Also Cool Your Home in Summer, But Only with Proper Use

Contrary to a common misconception, heat pumps are not solely for winter heating; they can also provide efficient cooling and dehumidification during hot summer days, provided the system is correctly planned and set up.

Energy consultant Bojan Žnidaršič explains that a heat pump's function is to move heat from one location to another. This means it simultaneously heats one area while cooling another. However, simply lowering the set temperature is insufficient for comfortable cooling. The method by which coolness is transferred into the room is crucial, and radiators are generally not the most suitable for this purpose.

Particular attention must be paid to humidity. If ceilings, walls, or floors become too cold, condensation can form, creating an environment conducive to mold growth. Experts also warn against a frequent user error: attempting to cool the home to around 20 degrees Celsius. The goal of summer cooling is not to create a refrigerator-like environment but to prevent the building from overheating and maintain a stable, pleasant temperature without drafts.
