Without a club and with Bolivia on the horizon, Viscarra faces uncertainty

Guillermo Viscarra is training in Santa Cruz without a club, leaving the Bolivia goalkeeper’s future uncertain just before another international window.

Viscarra left Alianza Lima in July after making 51 appearances and keeping 17 clean sheets. His position at the Peruvian club changed after he joined Bolivia for the playoff, and when he returned to Alianza Lima he fell out of favor with the coaching staff and lost his starting place.

His name was later linked with clubs abroad. San Lorenzo of Argentina emerged as one of the strongest possibilities, but the speculation did not result in an agreement. Mexico also appeared as an alternative, though those options failed to materialize as well.

The uncertainty comes as transfer and registration periods differ from one country to another, with several markets already closed. As a free agent, however, Viscarra may have additional room to negotiate, depending on the rules of each federation.

Bolivia coach Óscar Villegas is expected to announce the squad for the September matches against Paraguay soon. Viscarra is a regular national-team call-up, and his lack of a club comes just before the next camp. For now, he is continuing to train in Santa Cruz with members of the Bolivia team’s coaching staff while seeking a chance to return to competitive football and remain among Villegas’ goalkeeping options.
