Witness says he wore robe to avoid disappointing Alan Jones during alleged assault

A witness in the trial of broadcaster Alan Jones has told a Sydney court he followed an alleged instruction to shower and wear a robe because he did not want to disappoint the 85-year-old.

Complainant J, who accuses Jones of indecent assault on nine occasions in 2003 and 2004, was being cross-examined by barrister Gabrielle Bashir. Jones has pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of assault with an act of indecency and two counts of sexual touching relating to six alleged victims between 2003 and 2020.

The complainant, now in his 40s, alleged Jones asked him to wear "a robe and nothing else" during a visit to his Fitzroy Falls property in 2004. Bashir pressed him on why he did not stop the alleged behavior and why he followed the instruction to wear a robe, given he said Jones had already assaulted him multiple times that day.

Bashir suggested the complainant had "concocted" or "fabricated" his story after reading media reports of similar allegations. The complainant stated he received weekly payments from Jones to help with his sporting career and did not want them to stop. "I didn't like when he was disappointed in me," he told the court.
