Woman Apprehended at Kaohsiung Hospital for Wielding Knife

Police in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, apprehended a 56-year-old woman, identified as Ms. Xu, for brandishing a folding knife within the hospital grounds. The incident occurred on the afternoon of July 31, prompting an alert from the public.

Witnesses reported seeing the woman walking from the rehabilitation building towards the emergency department, waving the knife. She was reportedly seen sitting in the waiting area when police arrived. Ms. Xu stated she was at the hospital for a follow-up appointment and produced the folding knife from her jacket pocket, claiming she intended to use it for peeling fruit.

Authorities are processing Ms. Xu under two charges: violation of the Social Order Maintenance Act and public intimidation. While she was seen waving the knife outdoors, she had reportedly placed it in her pocket upon entering the hospital building. Police noted that during questioning, Ms. Xu appeared to be mentally unstable.
