Woman detained in Villa Gesell death of daughter refuses to testify

Lucía Sosa, detained in connection with the death of her two-year-old daughter a week ago in Villa Gesell, has refused to provide testimony during her interrogation. She faces charges of aggravated abandonment of a person.

Sosa invoked her right not to testify, leaving authorities without her account of the events. Simultaneously, attempts to question her four-year-old son, the primary witness to his sister's death, were halted. A psychologist determined the child was not emotionally ready to undergo the Cámara Gesell interview, as he arrived at the judicial headquarters feeling unwell.

This is not the first tragedy for Sosa, who has had three children die. In 2013, her six-month-old daughter Candela passed away, followed by her 11-month-old daughter Yazmín in 2016. Sosa was detained for two years in connection with Yazmín's death, facing accusations of homicide and sexual abuse alongside her then-partner, Gerardo Picart. Both were eventually acquitted.

The investigation is also looking into Héctor Aguirre, the father of the deceased child and the four-year-old boy. Aguirre is currently free and appears to be moving away from accusations, as evidence suggests he was not present at the home when the tragedy occurred. He stated he was at his health insurance provider at the time. Meanwhile, Sosa's elder son, Lucas, who lives in Mar del Plata, has come forward to media outlets alleging mistreatment by his mother and Picart.
