Woman faces new challenge after ex-husband allegedly keeps foreign earnings

A woman in Lithuania is embroiled in a legal battle after entrusting a significant sum of money to her ex-husband, only for him to allegedly keep it. The situation arose when the woman, facing a debt of 54,000 euros to be collected by bailiffs, decided to work abroad for nearly a year to earn money to cover her obligations.

I was forced to defend my rights in court because my ex-husband misappropriated my money, which I had entrusted to him for safekeeping.

To prevent the bailiffs from seizing her entire earnings, she asked her ex-husband to open a bank account in his name and provide her with a payment card. Her intention was to manage her funds abroad, use them for living expenses, and repay her debt in installments. The ex-husband agreed to this arrangement, and her earnings were transferred to his account.

However, the ex-husband allegedly refused to return the money. The woman stated in her court filing that she was forced to defend her rights in court because her ex-husband had appropriated the money she had entrusted to him for safekeeping. She explained that she had worked abroad to avoid having all her income seized by the bailiff handling her debt.

Despite having divorced, the couple had maintained a friendly relationship and a shared responsibility for their adult daughter. The woman had hoped this trust would be honored, but her ex-husband's actions have led to a protracted legal dispute. She is now facing the challenge of recovering the money she earned abroad, which was intended to cover her debts and essential living costs.
