Woman pleads not guilty to murder over alleged fatal hit-run crash

A woman has been ordered to stand trial in South Australia's Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to the murder of a man she allegedly killed in a hit-run crash.

Hayley Catherine McCarthy-Long, 22, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, endangering life, and leaving the scene of an accident. Prosecutors allege she struck and killed Andrews Farm father Daniel Harrison, 25, with a car in Hillier, in Adelaide's north, on November 11, 2025. Ms McCarthy-Long was previously charged with causing death by dangerous driving, but the charge was upgraded earlier this year.

Mr Harrison's younger sister, Kashaya Harrison, spoke outside court. "DJ was a loving [and] caring son, father, brother, cousin, nephew, friend … he would give you anything even if he had nothing," she said, adding that her brother "deserved to make it home." The family is "all over the place" and carries a "pain that never leaves."

Ms McCarthy-Long's lawyer previously told the court that her client was in a car that was attacked by a group of men, including Mr Harrison. The lawyer stated her client was in a vehicle with four young girls, one a minor, when men with weapons surrounded them. Police are analyzing CCTV footage and have evidence suggesting the collision was not spontaneous and that two groups attended the location. They are also seeking a video allegedly recorded from inside the vehicle.

Ms McCarthy-Long will be arraigned in South Australia's Supreme Court later this year.
