Woman's Death in Kuldīga: Police Find 100 Drug Stashes, Seek Charges Against Indian Citizen

Authorities in Kuldīga, Latvia, have concluded an investigation into the death of a young woman, which has led to the arrest of an Indian citizen. The woman was hospitalized on September 24 last year with a confirmed drug overdose. Police subsequently arrested a man, an Indian national, who was taken into custody.

During the investigation, police searched the residences of two young women and the arrested Indian man. In Kuldīga, seven foil wraps containing greenish-brown dried plant matter, suspected to be marijuana, along with electronic cigarettes and loose tobacco, were found at one woman's home. At the second woman's residence in Ventspils, one suspected MDMA tablet and two cigarettes with a marijuana-like smell were discovered. The criminal proceedings against this woman were completed earlier this year.

Searches of vehicles and the residence of the arrested Indian citizen in Ventspils yielded a significant quantity of drugs intended for sale. Police seized 197 MDMA tablets, 270 grams of dried marijuana, 0.1157 grams of cocaine, and 0.0875 grams of ketamine. Further investigation revealed that the man created over 100 drug stashes in forests around Jūrmala and Jelgava, from which 193 MDMA tablets and 151 LSD-impregnated papers were recovered.

Forensic examinations determined the cause of the young woman's death to be combined intoxication from cannabinoids, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and MDMA, complicated by cerebral edema, swelling, and brainstem herniation. The investigation established that on the night of her death, both women had consumed an MDMA tablet and marijuana, but the deceased's body contained other substances unknown at the initial stage of the investigation.
