Woman's drug-fueled driving causes 1 death, 5 injuries in Taichung

A tragic accident in Taichung, Taiwan, has resulted in one fatality and five injuries after a 45-year-old woman, identified as Liu, allegedly drove under the influence of multiple narcotics. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon when Liu's white Mercedes-Benz collided with four cars and two motorcycles stopped at a red light.

The victim, identified as a 37-year-old man working in the水电 (water and electricity) sector, was reportedly trapped between two vehicles. Despite rescue efforts by the Taichung Fire Bureau, he was pronounced dead after being transported to Fengyuan Hospital. Five other individuals sustained minor abrasions and bruises but are reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical attention.

Authorities conducted alcohol tests on all drivers involved, which showed no signs of intoxication. However, Liu's saliva test revealed positive results for four types of drugs: etomidate, opioids, amphetamines, and cathinones. Police suspect that her drug use led to the fatal crash. Liu, who is married and unemployed, has a prior record of drug offenses and claims to be undergoing methadone treatment.

She has been transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office facing charges including dangerous driving, negligent homicide, and violations of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. The Liberty Times emphasized the importance of staying away from drugs.
